St Joseph Day

St. Joseph Day 2025

Let's Celebrate Our Patron Saint: St. Joseph
St Joseph

Our parish is celebrating our patron saint in several ways this year, culminating with a special Mass and meal on Wednesday, March 19 – the Feast of St. Joseph, Husband of Mary.

33-Day Consecration to St. Joseph: This includes personal reading of the "33-Day Consecration to St. Joseph" book and book discussion sessions on Saturday, February 22,  March 1 and March 8, 15, 10:00-11:15 a.m. in the Parish/School Hall.

St. Joseph – A Guide for the 21st Century: Presentation on Heroic Living in the “Insignificant” Parts of our Lives, by speaker: Gary Pokorny, Tuesday, March 11, 6:30- 7:30 p.m. in church. See PDF with details. This presentation will look at our patron, St. Joseph, as he appears in the Church’s liturgy, in the Catechism, and in the Church’s social teaching. Joseph can be a companion to us in trying times, a guide to following God’s promptings in life, and a reminder to search for Christ in unexpected places and among the least of God’s people.

Donut Sunday: A special gathering to welcome the newest members of the parish and to celebrate the newly baptized. Sunday, March 16 after the 10:30 Mass in the Parish/School Hall. Enjoy fellowship with donuts, rolls, coffee and juice.

St. Joseph Day Mass and Meal: 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, with principal celebrant Archbishop Jeffrey Grob, and other priests concelebrating. The Mass will be followed by a pasta meal in the Parish/School Hall (RSVPs required by March 10 so we know how much food to have on hand- call the parish office at 414-771-4646; or turn in the sign-up form to the parish office.)

St. Joseph Table and
Food Pantry Collections

The tradition of the St. Joseph Table involves families preparing tables of food to be shared with the less fortunate in the community.

In the spirit of this tradition, we will be collecting food to distribute to community the St. Rose food pantry. Food will be collected at Masses on March 15 and 16, and at our St. Joseph Day meal on March 19.

The following are the current needs of the food pantry. Please consider donating one or more of the following:

  • Cereal
  • Mac-n-Cheese
  • Canned Fruit
  • Canned Vegetables
  • Pasta Sauce
  • Canned Beef-a-Roni
  • Canned Tuna

The tradition of the “St. Joseph Table” of food (“la tavala di San Giuseppe”) has its origins in Sicily. Legends from the Middle Ages attributed the end of a devastating drought to a prayer-devotion that the Sicilian people made to St. Joseph. This celebration is a symbolic “thank you” and renewal of the devotion to St. Joseph. It is a shared celebration where the riches of food are given as alms to the poor.
